The Occupational Outlook Handbook is an annual publication of
the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The information is gathered from a
variety of sources and complied here as the facts and figures many people
use for determining their best career path. It is a reliable indicator
of what is happening in the working world at the present time and a
reasonable predictor of occupational trends through the next ten years. Far
too many who refer to the OOH, including many career counselors, fail to
make any distinction between statistical data and the variability and
energy of the individual human spirit. Statistics apply to large groups of
people, and not to individuals. In short, the OOH should be regarded
only as an informational tool and not as an indelible roadmap for launching
