What is history? Just look around at everything in your life and environment that was conceived, constructed, and controlled by people--ideas as well as tangible things. We are talking about ideas, traditions, institutions, and anything else that would not exist without human intervention. Then ask yourself, "Exactly how did all this come about?" When you attempt to answer that question at any level of sophistication, you are "doing" history.  That's what it is about ...how did we get where we are today?

At least that's a good place to start.

World History

World History at Free-Ed.Net focuses on the general study and interpretation of the past, including the gathering, recording, synthesizing and criticizing of evidence and theories about past events.

Western History

At Free-Ed.Net, Western History traces its roots back to classical antiquity. From European and Mediterranean origins, it has spread to produce the dominant cultures of modern North America, South America, and much of Oceania, and has had immense global influence in recent centuries.

Asian History

Asian History focuses on the development of the societies, cultures, and institutions of the Asian Continent from their origins to the present.

American History

American history at Free-Ed.Net specifically includes the United States and Canada, and it generally includes all of the Americas: North, Central, and South.

European History

Naturally, European History is the study of the history of Europe. Many of the topics are embedded in World History and Western History, but here the topics tend to center upon the nations, regions, and cultures that are unique to Europe.
