The tragic thing is that we have educators designing clumsy curriculum for gifted children when they, themselves, cannot possibly know what it is like to wander about in a world where every point of light or distant sound is rich with creative possibilities. --DaveH

Gifted education is a broad term for special practices, procedures and theories used in the education of children who have been identified as gifted or talented. There is no standard global definition of what a gifted student is. [Wikipedia]

There might be problems with finding a suitable academic/institutional definition, but we certainly can draw some workable conclusions about the meaning of giftedness. Virtually all professional teachers are bound by institutional guidelines and a maze of social and cultural pressures that most often limit their ability to identify and mentor gifted children appropriately. For those mentors and parents who are not bound in this fashion, the opportunity for developing and enriching the life of a gifted child are virtually without limit. This school is committed to that perspective.
