Stagecraft
is a generic term referring to the technical aspects of
theatrical, film, and video production. It includes, but
is not limited to, constructing and rigging scenery,
hanging and focusing of lighting, design and procurement
of costumes, makeup, procurement of props, stage
management, and recording and mixing of sound.
A theatre director or stage director is a
practitioner in the theatre field who oversees and
orchestrates the mounting of a theatre production (a
play, an opera, a musical, or a devised piece of work)
by unifying various endeavors and aspects of production.
The director's function is to ensure the quality and
completeness of theatre production and to lead the
members of the creative team into realizing their
artistic vision for it.
A theatrical producer is a person who oversees
all aspects of mounting a theatre production. The
producer manages the overall financial and managerial
functions of a production or venue, raises or provides
financial backing, and hires personnel for creative
positions (writer, director, designers, composer,
choreographer—and in some cases, performers).
A playwright, also called a dramatist, is a
person who writes plays.
