Art Appreciation is the
knowledge and understanding of the universal and
timeless qualities that identify all great art.
As an artist, the more you
appreciate and understand about the art from
different eras, movements, styles and techniques,
the better you can develop, evaluate and improve
your own work. If your interest in art is simply for
your personal enjoyment, a greater knowledge of art
history and an understanding of pictorial elements,
such as composition and technique, should increase
your appreciation of art and enhance the pleasure
you derive from looking at it.

Few people
pursue successful careers in Art Appreciation, as such.
However, the subject can become
a valuable career asset in two ways. First, it can
serve as a
learning wrapper for the organizational and
analytical skills required for a diverse collection
of careers as diverse as criminal justice, business administration,
marketing, sales, and hospitality sectors. Second, Art
Appreciation be bundled with Art History,
Journalism, and Media Studies to structure a career as a
journalist, author, columnist, or
knowledge aggregator for the visual arts.
