If you don't understand people,
everything else you think you understand is seriously flawed.

What is history?
Just look around at everything in your life and environment that was
conceived, constructed, and controlled by people--ideas as well as
tangible things. We are talking about ideas, traditions, institutions,
and anything else that would not exist without human intervention. Then
ask yourself, "Exactly how did all this come about?" When you attempt to
answer that question at any level of sophistication, you are "doing"
history. That's what it is about ...how did we get where we are
today?
At least that's a good place to start.
