We humans aren't nearly as smart as we generally want to think we are. Real science reminds us of this simple fact, but it also provides a way for learning more—a little bit at a time.

From General Science to Theoretical Astrophysics, the College of Science at Free-Ed.Net offers free courses and other study resources for all major science disciplines. Most learners in this college are here to supplement their formal studies or to refresh and expand their understanding of science topics learned at some earlier time. A few a here to preview the kinds of courses they might face in college-level science courses. Finally, there is this mere handful of learners (contributing scholars) who actually believe they can use this knowledge to make a serious contribution to science and the welfare of humanityeven without possessing the traditional credentials.

General Science
  • General Science Studies
  • History of Science
  • Philosophy of Science
  • Science and Society

General Science at Free-Ed.Net is composed of two separate components. First, there are the science courses that survey the entire topic, most often in a general, non-mathematical way. Such programs are intended for learners who need some understanding of science, but plan to pursue studies that refer to little or no scientific background. The second component includes non-scientific works that are not scientific in nature--the history, philosophy, and ethics of science, for example.

Astronomy
  • General Astronomy
  • Solar System Astronomy
  • Stellar & Galactic Astronomy
  • Cosmology & Astrophysics

A general program that focuses on the planetary, galactic, and stellar phenomena occurring in outer space. Includes instruction in celestial mechanics, cosmology, stellar physics, galactic evolution, quasars, stellar distribution and motion, interstellar medium, atomic and molecular constituents of astronomical phenomena, planetary science, solar system evolution, and specific methodologies such as optical astronomy, radio astronomy, and theoretical astronomy

Biology
  • General Biology
  • Anatomy & Physiology
  • Microbiology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Marine Biology
  • Evolution
  • Zoology
  • Botany
  • Biochemistry

Biology instructional programs at Free-Ed.Net focus on the life sciences and the non-clinical biomedical sciences.

Chemistry
  • General Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Biochemistry

A general program that focuses on the scientific study of the composition and behavior of matter, including its micro- and macro-structure, the processes of chemical change, and the theoretical description and laboratory simulation of these phenomena.

Earth Sciences
  • General Earth Science
  • Geology
  • Meteorology
  • Oceanography
  • Environmental Science

This is a program that focuses on the scientific study of the earth; the forces acting upon it; and the behavior of the solids, liquids and gases comprising it.

Physics
  • General Physics
  • Classical Physics
  • Thermodynamics & Statistical Mechanics
  • Electromagnetic & Optical Physics
  • Relativity
  • Quantum Mechanics
  • Astrophysics
  • Mathematics for Physics

Physics  focuses on the scientific study of matter and energy, and the formulation and testing of the laws governing the behavior of the matter-energy continuum.
