Lesson 8. Working with the File System
Modern operating systems such as Windows provide a huge variety of services and features. However, if you were to ask what services comprise the core function of an operating system, providing a file system would surely be near the top of the list.
The dual requirements of file-system evolution and backward compatibility have littered the Windows operating system variants with a spectrum of old and new file systems.
To ensure that you can exploit the best file-system features and still maintain compatibility across the various platforms, you should be aware of these differences and their implications on the behavior of file and device I/O functions.
