You are looking at a new (July, 2008) version of this course. The content provider for the earlier version had to remove his free online textbook. No problem. Right? We are the kind of people who make small business work. Right? We roll with the punches and come out better in the end. Right? We've done it ... in less than 48 hours.

It's going to take a few days to get everything put together, so excuse the construction. Work around it.

But that isn't the really exciting new feature: You are expected to build your own successful business, from scratch, in the online virtual 3D world, Second Life^©.

Do you really have what it takes to build a successful business from the ground up? Do you have the will to discover the real answer?

Second Life isn't "just a game." It is vast world of people and places, and it offers an incredibly realistic social/economic system. It is an ideal sandbox for the would-be entrepreneur.

Basic membership is free. Optional costs can be as little or as much as you want to make them. With our resources and direct in-world meetings with your peers, you can:

Seek an economic opportunity that fires your passion.

Develop a sound business plan.

Round up the necessary resources (such as money, real estate, raw materials, partners and employees).

Put your plan into action, analyze the results, and make any necessary adjustments.

"But I don't know anything about Second Life." That's okay, you just discovered your first assignment.

For many, it takes time to quit talking and begin doing. Do it now! Take your best shot, and find out what you are really made of. No kidding ... seriously.

This online study program is not suitable for the sort of individuals who simply want to "be their own boss, work their own hours, and take vacations whenever they want." The hard truth of the matter is that an entrepreneur is not free to call all the shots. Rather, they are just as bound to circumstances and the marketplace as employees are bound to the orders of their boss. And, yes, you can work your own hours, like 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.. And let's see ... the most recent vacation was six years ago. Or was it eight?

Three Strikes and Yer Out?

It seems that successful business owners tend to have a history of at least two business failures. Those who survive and thrive have something else in common: they didn't stick other people, including innocent taxpayers, with their unpaid bills. It takes energy, determination, and a powerful sense of integrity to take on the full responsibility for a business failure--the very qualities, incidentally, required to succeed.

It isn't just a collection of power points, checklists, multiple-choice questions, and fluffy motivational hoopla. In fact this isn't about taking a course at all — it is more about taking an active part in your own learning process. It's about getting immersed in business ideas, examples, plans, and perspectives. (Some ideas even contradict one another. Imagine that!) Starting a real business isn't a simple matter of going through a carefully crafted checklist — it takes a heap of learning, thinking, and listening. And this study program draws upon those very qualities that you need for starting a growing a successful business. In short, if you can handle this study program successfully, it is very likely you are going to eventually make your business work.

By the way, I'm not expecting you to love me...just to do what I say! Those of us who have to spoil your pet fantasies in order to point the way to real success are never loved and appreciated. But that's okay with me. After all, this is business bootcamp!
